Wine and Cheese Reception from 6:30pm-7pm

Van Noy’s Lecture begins at 7pm

The Book Lady Bookstore, the University of Georgia Press, and the UGA Skidaway Institute of Oceanography present: Author Rick Van Noy and Sudden Spring: Stories of Adaptation in a Climate-Changed South.

The effects of climate change make headlines almost daily. All across America and the globe, communities have to adapt to rising sea levels, intensified storms, and warmer temperatures. One way or another, climate change will be a proving ground. We will either sink, in cases where the land is subsiding, or swim, finding ways to address these challenges.

Like Rachel Carson’s groundbreaking work Silent Spring, Rick Van Noy’s Sudden Spring (UGA Press 2019) is a call to action to mitigate current trends in our environmental degradation. By highlighting stories of people and places adapting to the impacts of a warmer climate, Van Noy shows us what communities in the South are doing to become more climate resilient and to survive a slow deluge of environmental challenges.

Author Rick Van Noy is a professor of English at Radford University and the author of Surveying the Interior: Literary Cartographers and the Sense of Place (University of Nevada Press, 2003)and A Natural Sense of Wonder: Connecting Kids with Nature Through the Seasons (University of Georgia Press 2008).

My Body, My Practice: Yoga for Reproductive Rights

49900271_2246495398924972_6682532146898272256_n.jpg

Where: Revolution Yoga

Price: Donation Based Class ($10)

It's time to let our voices be heard; it's time to stand up for women everywhere; it's time to come together to support a group that our state - and every state - truly cannot survive without. Women are not second class citizens who can be told what is and is not permissable within our bodies. Today - and together - we take a stand. My Body, My Practice.

This class is not about whether you believe abortion is right or wrong. This class is not about when you believe life begins. This class is not about where you practice yoga the other 364 days this year. This class is about the freedom to CHOOSE - what does and does not take place to and in our own bodies. We are yogis - it's time we drop our ego, we drop our competition, we drop it all and truly live the practice - and come together to empower each other and to empower our community through movement and through breath.

This is a donation based class - we are asking for a minimum donation of $10 but if you only have $5 to spare then please, please still join us. Nobody will be turned away. 100% of funds raised will go to our local Planned Parenthood chapter with the request that funds be used to fight and overturn this archaic // terrifying // unconstitutional // cruel law and to provide not only adequate but necessary reproductive healthcare to all who need it.

Cailyn will lead us through a strong, empowering 75 minute practice, and class will begin at 5:30 pm. Light drinks and snacks will be provided after class. Please pre-register for class to make sure you get a spot!

Anyone who donations $50 or more will be entered to win 2 free months of yoga.

If you're unable to attend the class but would like to make a donation, please give us a call (912-508-4337) or shoot Ashley an email (ashley@revolutionyogastudio.com)

Where: Saddle Bags Savannah

Price: Tickets will be sold at the door night of the event.

Jake Rose is a singer songwriter from a pumpkin farm north of Minneapolis and former frontman of Atlantic Records rock band “New Medicine”. In Jake’s early years when he wasn’t bailing hay and building fences, he could be found side stage at his Dad’s country band shows, “Stampede”. Jake toured the world with “New Medicine” and developed his songwriting skills. He quickly realized the nature of his storytelling was a fit in the country genre. Jake has written songs for Meatloaf, Colt Ford, Keith Urban, and Kid Rock. The multi-talented artist is currently making his debut solo record with Grammy award winning producer Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, etc.) and Kevin Kadish (“All About That Bass” creator). His first single “Sleeves”, co-written with hitman Craig Wiseman, debuted on the Highway and CMT https://youtu.be/w4F8H_J-PeI . Jake’s 2nd single “Favor” is a hot pick on playlists across streaming platforms. “Family” is an anthemic celebration of the friends we choose as our family and is resonating with fans of Wild Country and Today’s Country Hits on Spotify. Jake spent 2018 opening for Tim McGraw, Billy Currington, FGL, Eli Young Band, Russell Dickerson and LoCash to name a few. 2019 promises even more exciting shows at a festival near you! And look for more NEW JAKE ROSE MUSIC starting in February! In Jake’s own words … “LET’S GOOOOOO!!!”
