EARTH ANGEL

EARTH ANGEL

It’s hard to miss the large, shiny sculpture soaring over your head when you enter the Jepson Center’s atrium. Titled Earth Angel, the reflective butterfly is a site-specific installation by the collaborative Los Angeles-based duo FriendsWithYou, aka artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III. Their overarching goal is to connect us to each other and ourselves, spreading friendship and building community around the world. Earth Angel is a new character in their longform conceptual project to unite humanity by renaming our planet Ocean. It represents a visiting creature from beyond the heavens to Ocean who is the embodiment of vibrational harmony. The mirror-like surface symbolizes the universal totality present in everything and invites us to see ourselves in this mythological character—distorted, transformed, and anew.

Guys And Dolls

  • The Historic Savannah Theatre (map)

Hailed as the perfect musical comedy, this award-winning classic gambles with luck and love under the bright lights of Broadway. Guys and Dolls involves the unlikeliest of Manhattan pairings: a high-rolling gambler and a puritanical missionary, a showgirl dreaming of the straight-and-narrow and a crap game manager who is anything but.

Don’t miss this classic brought to life on stage at the Historic Savannah Theatre, featuring some of Frank Loesser’s most memorable tunes, including the hilarious “Adelaide’s Lament,” the romantic “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” the exuberant “If I Were a Bell,” and the classic “Luck Be a Lady.”

PirateCon Savannah 2023
Aug
5
1:30 PM13:30

PirateCon Savannah 2023

Map to be posted the day before. Share with your friends, the more pirates the merrier we be.

Shiver me timbers!! aAARRGH YOU READY?!?? Savannah PirateCon is upon us. Please dress in costume!! You need more than a bandana and a eye patch. The crazier the costume the better. Plan on raiding some drinking establishments for some spirits, splicing the main brace, and getting squiffy.
There isn't a better city to have a pirate themed pub crawl than the city where Robert Lewis Stevenson penned some of Treasure Island.
Bar list will be posted week before with a map. It will be HOT so make sure your hydrated. Food will be available along the way. Tybee Piratefest is months away so a good chance to get your costume ready.
This will be it until SantaCon in December. I hope to see everyone there, as will the visitors to Savannah as they see a bunch of drunk Scallywags on River Street. This is a Adult only event, we will come in contact with children so be respectful, and candy/coins are good to pass out.
1. Say "Arrr" continuously - no hearty band of seafarin' scoundrels should e'er be silent and "Arrr" should be the constant background sound at every PirateCon
2. Group "Arrr" - when someone in the crew says "Arrr" loudly everyone in the crew must respond with a loud "Arrr" (this should happen often, especially in bars)
3. Have a pirate name - "<Color>beard" is a good choice, especially if you don't have a beard
4. "Matey/Lass" is how ye address individual men/women (so you don't need to remember their pirate names)
5. "Me hearties" is how ye needs be addressin' yer fellow pirates collectively
6. Drink rum or beer - it's PirateCon fer land sakes!
7. Pay with cash and tip generously - it saves time and cultivates goodwill so we'll be welcome back next time
8. If you don't dress up you can't really join in, but you don't have to dress up as a pirate - any pirate-related costume will be ok.
10. A PirateCon is usually for adults only. The sight of a crowd of jolly pirates may be hugely entertaining for children but the midst of it is no place for them
11. A PirateCon is usually an informal public gathering and, while some pirates will have taken the initiative to organize it, you are responsible for your own actions. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
12. PirateCon is intended to foster a sense of community. It is not a case of "every man for himself" so please do your part to help keep the crew together and on course.
13. PirateCon is a drama free event, if you cannot handle your alcohol, and are prone to fights and arguments please do not attend. These actions reflect poorly on the Savannah Pub crawlers, who have had many events without incident.

ASHLEY MCBRYDE: LIVE IN CONCERT!

ASHLEY MCBRYDE: LIVE IN CONCERT!

FRIDAY AUGUST 26 AT 8:00 PM

PRESENTED BY

SIX STRING SOUTHERN

Dubbed by NPR as “country music’s most exciting new country voice” and Rolling Stone citing she’s “an Arkansas red-clay badass, with the swagger of Hank Jr. and the songwriting of Miranda Lambert,” McBryde fearlessly lays it all on the line, and it’s that honest all-in approach that has led to The New York Times critic Jon Caramanica to opine that “the still beauty in her singing is impressive, but her easeful storytelling feels practically radical.” McBryde’s album showcases an artistic vision that proves her to be one of the genre’s keenest working storytellers, bringing unwavering honesty back into a pop-preoccupied genre. Pulling tales from every corner of her human experience – a happenstance love on “A Little Dive Bar In Dahlonega,” a neighbor with a heavy past on “Livin’ Next to LeRoy,” a girl with an impossibly possible dream on “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” – McBryde sings with fire and fury, laughing and swigging that brown stuff along the way. And she doesn’t do it in glitter and sequins, either, like a good lady of Music Row. McBryde wears her boots and crack her jokes: with McBryde, what you see is what you get, and what you get is what you see.

Six String Southern Productions presents country music artist Ashley McBryde live at The Lucas on Friday, August 26 along with special guest Catie Offerman. Reserved seat tickets are $49 and $39.

BLOW UP: INFLATABLE CONTEMPORARY ART
Aug
24
to Sep 18

BLOW UP: INFLATABLE CONTEMPORARY ART

BLOW UP: Inflatable Contemporary Art explores the imaginative ways that artists use air as a tool for creating larger-than-life sculptures. Featuring nine cutting-edge installation projects, this exhibition shakes up traditional associations of inflatables with balloons, beach toys, and blimps. As a group, these demonstrate the wealth of visual possibilities for inflatable art, from playfully familiar subjects to colorful abstractions and thought-provoking conceptual work. The exhibition includes an international roster of artists and art collectives who are well known in contemporary art circles: Nicole Banowetz, Sharon Engelstein, FriendsWithYou, Joshua Harker, Susan Lee-Chun, Matt Ritchie, Lizabeth Rossof, Max Streicher, and Jen Stark. Their works use bold colors, pop culture references, and overwhelming scale to address an array of serious themes, including consumerism, climate change, cultural identity, and mortality.

BLOW UP: Inflatable Contemporary Art is organized by Carrie Lederer, Curator of Exhibitions, Bedford Gallery at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, CA. This exhibition is the second iteration of BLOW UP, which was also curated and traveled by Bedford Gallery. The presentation of this exhibition at Telfair Museums is designed by Alex Mann, director of curatorial affairs and chief curator.

Jewish family who began to see the storm clouds of World War 2 gathering over Europe in the

of life.  The show is filled with stunning arrangements of familiar songs from the 1940s, including

"Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "I'll Be Seeing You", "The White Cliffs of Dover", "Hava Nagila",

"Jukebox Saturday Night", and "You're A Grand Old Flag".
